What did the writers of the New Testament mean ... in their day & time?
A VIEW FROM OUR CHURCH PULPIT:
What the Mystical Spiritualist Church engages in, that most orthodox churches do not, is the exercising the "Gifts of the Spirit" as outlined in ... I Corinthians 12: 4-11. We do not do "the works of any devil", but rather we demonstrate, some of "ALL the things that are possible with God!"
WHAT IS DIVINITY?
It is difficult when we are living within the constraints of this physical view and world for the finite mind and reality to truly understand the infinite, and so we are going to be limited in how can we possibly come to understand or embrace something which we've not experienced in our limited awareness. Thus, true wisdom comes only from experience, not writings.
THE BIBLICAL WRITINGS:
Many changes have occurred over the centuries during the writing, copying and recopying of the texts within the Bible. From time to time, some people got rather hung up on the words, not looking at the interpretation or meaning in the heart. But, as we remember that Jesus talked in parables, not what was in actuality, many influential Christian leaders chose to ignore that fact and thus missed the point and purpose of his words and deeds. And, shall we say, certain scribes also took certain liberties in phrasing what they thought someone else would have thought or said.
Though some say, "Truth is Truth, it will never change", it is how we make our inner truths manifest in our own lives; that is what is most important.
Now, what did the (Greek & Hebrew) words in the New Testament mean, in their day?
The meanings of these words have changed as they have moved from country to country, language to language and society to society, over the centuries.
In the Book of Revelation, the last book of the New Testament, is supposedly a story about the ultimate victory of good over evil at the "end of time". However, we must remember that it was written when a lot of Jews living under Roman occupation were of the belief in the power of armies and a God that would intervene in the affairs of mankind. But, we see, millennia later, that this is not our rteality, even though each generation of Christians has some people still believing in the old ways, even if they have been proven over time to be a false vierw of God. Thus "the end of time" must have been the end of te writer's life. However, the “end of time” now taken to be one of the the primary assumptions in the story, but even that idea dates to 1175.(neither in Jesus’ time, nor today)
Apocalypse - Today, the word Apocalypse is commonly used in reference to any prophetic revelation or so-called end of days scenario, or to the supposed end of the (THIS) world in general. But, the word "Appocaltpse" may simply refer to the parting of The Veil which happens upon death of the body (The end of "your world"), which is also, symbolically, the “Destruction of the Temple”! As your consciousness expands at death, it is revealed, to you, that Love is Real, Love is FREEING, it is creative, thus healing and it is everywhere!
Apocalypse - translated literally from Greek, means "uncovering". An “apocalypse” is a disclosure of knowledge, i.e., a lifting of the veil or revelation. In religious contexts it is usually a disclosure of something hidden, as in “a vision of heavenly secrets that can make sense of earthly realities".
Atonement - At one ment, Being at one with God: All-That-Is, was and ever shall be.
Ascension - a rising up of awareness (or energetic vibration)
Baptism - from the Greek, baptizô, meaning to immerse. This is an ancient (long before Christianity) ceremony or act of purification, used in all Judaic based religions..
Born Again - This occurrs when the Christ-like energy of unconditional lovefor everybody and everything is living in your heart. Also related to "Resurrection" or "Apocalypse".
Christ- Comes from the Greek word Christós, which means "The Annointed One." such as a ruler, a teacher or a leader. The Hebrew word for Christ was Mašíaḥ, usually translated as "Messiah", or "messanger" or bringer of wisdom. ("Christ" was not Jesus' last name. It is his title.)
Free Will - The belief that within the greater scheme of things, each person or being has complete freedom to choose its own direction and circumstances. However each new choice creates some new conditions to deal with, so some do not believe in free will. So, they call this state Predestination.
Gnostic - from the Greek word, gnosis, "to know" (some of the secrets of the soul and/or God). Most Gnostics at the time of Jesus were members of a mystical branch of Christianity that did not agree with the down to earth Roman ideas and interpretations.
Gospel - This word comes from the Olde English for 'good news', that we are "saved" into eternal life.
I in Him, He in Me - We each exist within each other's hearts and minds. (This state of being was not unique to Jesus. He was our living Example of the next state of humans being.)
Incarnation - literally, in the meat, implying that one's soul is within a physical body. But, the reverse is also true.
The Last Judgment - This was an invention of the Roman Orthodoxy. In fact, as one moves into the Greater Awareness of the Oneness of All Things within a Life that is Everlasting, there is a review and assessment as to what one has done and what you want to do or where to go or what to understand better, next. As you realize that you and God are ONE, this is a self assessment, not a "jusgement".
Messiah, from the Jewish word meshia, meaning "messanger", teacher or an honored one who is an "anointed one". This may apply to a leader, teacher or honored one such as a king (and the queen of England, who was allointed at her coronation ceremony). This word, translated from the Greek (Christos), into English is "Christ".
New Jerusalem - This is not a physical place, but it is a new state on mind, as one "repents" (See below)
Orthodox -Ortho-dox, the true (ortho) teaching from the official documents (dox), based on written records. But (as stated above) true wisdom comes only from experience, not written materials.
Predestinatuin- in theology, this is the doctrine that all events have been willed by God, usually with reference to the eventual fate of the individual soul, often thought of as separate from "Free Will". But when you make a choice, out of free will, there are now predestined "conditions" that apply. So, both are at work, always.
Rapture - This is a state of being "caught up", inspired or in the spirit, the spirit of loving everything and everyone which many believe is only a heavenly state. But, this state of consciousness is possible while still incarnate.
Repent ... Re-Pent ... to think again or to change the way you think, as in, "Change your mind, change your life" or "Change the way you look at the world and the world will change around you."
Resurrection (of the dead) - raised (to life) again, or a standing up again ... at the end of the world. Yes, this does happen as one Graduates from this world into the expanded Greater Awareness of All-That-Is, in "death". My own deceased wife has told me, "You can't bring me back from the dead, because I'm not dead!" Thus, she is "resurrected" (energetically) in Life Eternal ... as we all are!
Saint - Originally, anybody who has moved on to "heaven" or the Afterlife, before us. There were no "Popes" to award sainthood, for over 300 years in the development of early Christianity. Yet, they existed!
Salvation - Finding that you are "alive" after "death", because the soul does not die, when the body does.
Second Coming - when the Christ-like energy of unconditional love for everybody and everything comes alive in your heart. Related to "Born Again" and "Rapture".
Virgin - In Hebrew the word "Almah" means a young woman of childbearing age who has not yet had a child. But, in Rome the word "virgin" is from the Latin virgo, meaning literally "maiden" or "virgin"—a sexually intact young woman or a "sexually inexperienced woman".

WHO YOU ARE IS LOVE, though we may find God in love, life light, beauty, inspiration and truth ... it is all a reflection of Who We Really Are, portions of All-That-IS!
There was a very well known angel and spirit guide that was once asked if he had met Jesus, on the Other Side. And his reply was that, “The man Jesus, the man who walked the earth, I have known and met. But, the Jesus that is talked about in your Christianity I have yet to meet.”
